In the Hand of the Taliban

"In the Hands of the Taliban is the story of Yvonne Ridley, the gutsy journalist who was seized by the Taliban during her assignment as an undercover reporter for the Sunday Express at the outbreak of war in Afghanistan." "At a time when the Western world had been plunged into spectacular chaos and uncertainty, Yvonne had a private ordeal of her own to endure. Her determination to survive led her to adopt a strategy of defiance towards her captors. Contrasting sharply with the subdued demeanour of Afghan women, Yvonne's rebellious stance helped to secure her release, as the Taliban were relieved to rid themselves of such a 'difficult' Western woman." "Yvonne's plight hit the international headlines and her intrepid reporting style roused controversy and concern for her wellbeing. Here she divulges the details of her alarming experiences in the hands of the most reviled and elusive regime in the world. She offers a unique insight into life as an undercover journalist, the Taliban's way of operating, their beliefs, and describes her fellow hostages, war in Afghanistan and her own inner conflict between her family and her job."--BOOK JACKET.
